URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT

WFOA has received new information of recent sightings of bobcats and coyotes in our Williamsburg area. We have received the assistance of local professionals who are currently investigating and believe this to be accurate. In Florida, as well as other locations, it is important to learn how to safely live with wildlife. Research has shown that removing them is an inefficient and ineffective method to control local populations. This is because new coyotes and bobcats often move into habitat others have been removed from and populations can quickly return to their original size. Like most wildlife species, bobcats and coyotes have a natural fear of people. However, they may lose this fear if they are taught to associate people with food. All food and garbage needs to be secured so as not to unnaturally attract bobcats, coyotes, or other wildlife. Food, garbage, and small animals are their food source and they will continue to stay in an area where they can easily obtain this.

What do coyotes look like? Coyotes are medium-sized mammals in the same family as dogs, wolves and foxes. Their fur is generally salt-and-pepper gray, with tan or brown patches. They have a thick, bushy tail, long, pointy nose and pointy ears. Adults in Florida weigh between 20 and 35 pounds on average, and males are generally larger and heavier than females.

What do bobcats look like? The name bobcat, comes from the “bobbed” tail, which is as little as one or two inches long, but can reach seven inches in length. Bobcats can be recognized by their tufted, triangular shaped ears and facial tufts, often called sideburns. They have a distinct pattern of brown or black spots on their coats. The backs of their ears are black with white spots in the center. The bobcat stands nearly two feet at the shoulder and can get to be three feet in length and weigh fifteen to thirty pounds.

Don’t allow your dogs or cats to roam freely. Most attacks on pets occur either at night or in the early evening and early morning hours (that is, dusk and dawn). During those times especially, be careful if you’re going to walk your pet in wooded areas or areas where there are a lot of other plants growing, which could hide coyotes and bobcats. Also, keep your dog close, on a short leash. It is best to keep cats indoors all of the time, but especially at night.

Conservation Commission online at

Williamsburg Bus Service Has Been Renamed NeighborLink

LYNX 's PickUpLine service has been renamed NeighborLink. The fleet has a new pink, silver and black design along with a new local phone number (407-244-0808). Service in Williamsburg is now available and includes the area along Turkey Lake Road as far north as Sand Lake Road. What this means is that the bus will now take you from your home to the Post Office, Walmart, Whole Foods plaza, Dr. Phillips Hospital and the adjacent medical offices.

Since the service area has expanded, ridership has increased in the past few months. We at WHOA have worked hard to make this expansion possible. It is now up to the riders to keep the service in place by using it as much as possible.

LYNX ’s NeighborLink 641 operates between 5:30am and 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, excluding Holidays. To make an appointment to be picked up, you must call 407-244-0808 at least two hours in advance. The bus will pick you up at your home. The cost is $2 full fare and $1.00 for Youth (18 and under) and AdvantAge (65+) Discount.

Don't forget that the intersection of John Young Parkway

and Central Florida Parkway has traffic cameras that are used liberally to send expensive tickets to red light runners.

Be careful out there!

Free Computer Classes from a very knowledgable Lake Ridge resident are being offered to all Williamsburg residents! Classes are held every Tuesday evening at the Lake Ridge Clubhouse at 7:30 pm. Come with or without your computer....

ABOUT WHOA

ALERT!

Due to decreasing membership (less than 10% of homeowners) WHOA voted to stop maintaining some of the landscaping in our community, and anticipates all landscape management will end in about a year from now!

Belonging to the Williamsburg Homeowners Association brings some special advantages to its members.

For just $25 per year, you will have the opportunity to support the group that represents all of the Villages in Williamsburg to negotiate with our local governments and Agencies on our behalf. Membership also entitles you to discounts at many local businesses (see column to the left for a list).

.

Thanks to WHOA, we have enjoyed many improvements to our Community, including new street lights on Orangewood Blvd, street repair and lighting, and a specially designed traffic exchange with the Beach Line Expressway and Orangewood that reduces the traffic streaming down from Universal Boulevard. WHOA Also maintains all of the landscaping that isn't the responsibility of the individual villages of Williamsburg.

Please help us to continue this important service by paying your dues each year. Only $25 per year buys a lot of benefits! ...Send to:

NEWS

DESTINATION PARKWAY FINALLY HAS A DESTINATION!

NOW OPEN! (sort of)

The picture above was taken from John Young Pkwy, and shows that Destination Parkway is now open almost all the way to John Young. But until the John Young Parkway widening Project is done, you will have to turn left at the end of the bridge over Shingle Creek and follow that road to Commodity Circle. Then, turn right and you will come out across from the entrance to the Walmart Shopping Center!

The last part is unfinished. This portion is delayed until John Young is widened. This project is currently under construction.

Eventually, it will also connect to International Drive, right next to the Hilton. The work on the West side is on hold until the County can find a developer who is willing to pay for extending the road. No one knows when the West end will be completed. Hopefully, in our lifetime! This road should eventually reduce traffic on Central Florida Parkway.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember the Subs+ restaurant that was in the Williamsburg Downs Shopping Center? If you enjoyed their fare, the owners have moved just down the road to PARC CORNICHE (located 1/4 mi. South of I Drive and CFL Pkwy) The new location is the main restaurant for this property. It is called the CALYPSO BAR & GRILL, and they feature the same food you loved, and a whole lot more, in a beautiful, tropical, and much larger location. They also offer a 10% discount for WHOA members!
