 President's Report

SCAM ALERT - National Homeowners Association - NOT endorsed by WHOA or the Clubs

Recently, flyers were distributed door to door in our community from a group calling themselves "The National Homeowners Association". The flyers offer discounts on lawn care and other services. The persons distributing the flyers are implying that they are endorsed by the Clubs and WHOA, which is NOT the case. Neither WHOA nor the Clubs have ever heard of this organization and we do NOT endorse this group.

The flyers have also been placed in mailboxes, which is a violation of Federal law. The Post Office has been alerted along with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, as solicitation is prohibited in our villages.

What is WHOA, What does WHOA do?

Many new residents are unfamiliar with what WHOA does and where the $25 membership fee is spent. We are often asked "Why should I pay an extra $25 per year in addition to my club fees?"

WHOA's most visible activity is to maintain the landscaping at the entrance to our community. The area maintained by WHOA is located on Orangewood Blvd from Gateway Ave northward to the 528 expressway (Beachline). This includes nearly two acres of property, which requires maintenance on a continual basis.

WHOA also works as an advocate for Williamsburg to represent our interests in dealings with the theme parks, hotels, and businesses that surround us. We also maintain close contact with Orange County elected officials such as Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Commissioner Scott Boyd to make sure that our interests are protected.

A couple of examples of things that WHOA has achieved in the past is to keep toll booths from being added to our Hwy 528 interchange, we have also lobbied to keep a Wal Mart from being built right next to our community. We are currently working with the FAA, our elected officials and local businesses to eliminate the helicopter traffic that has been adversely impacting parts of our community. As a result of our lobbying efforts in the past few months, we were able to keep two new helipads from opening in the area and we will continue to work to eliminate all air traffic over our homes.

All of us on the WHOA Board of Directors are volunteers and 100% of your $25 membership fee is spent on landscaping. Our Board members and I donate hundreds of hours of our time each year to serve the community. Please take the time to join us today and help to keep our community a great place to live.

Dealing with Grief: There’s an Elephant in the Room – Free Seminar

Please join us for a free seminar (sponsored by Dr. P. Phillips Hospital) given by John Diaz, Chaplain – Dr. Philllips Hospital. All people need a chance to express their grief. While there is no magic formula for the grieving process, Chaplain Diaz will discuss ways to get you through difficult times. The presentation will be held at the Somerset Clubhouse on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from noon – 1 PM. Registration is required by May 7, 2012. Call the Somerset Clubhouse at 407-239-6400 to register.

Williamsburg Bus Service – Ridership Has Increased to Record High Levels

Expanded Lynx PickUpLine service in Williamsburg is now available. The service area has been expanded to include the area along Turkey Lake Road as far north as Sand Lake Road. What this means is that the bus will now take you from your home to the Post Office, Walmart, Whole Foods plaza, Dr. Phillips Hospital and the adjacent medical offices.

Since the service area has expanded, ridership has steadily increased and averaged 1.92 passengers per hour during February. We at WHOA have worked hard over the past few months to make this expansion possible. It is now up to the riders to keep the service in place by using it as much as possible.

LYNX ’s PickUpLine 641 operates between 5:30am and 8:00pm Monday through Saturday, excluding Holidays. To make an appointment to be picked up, you must call 1-866-204-2976 at least two hours in advance. The bus will pick you up at your home. The cost is $2 full fare and $1.00 for Youth (18 and under) and AdvantAge (65+) Discount.

ABOUT WHOA

ALERT!

Due to decreasing membership (less than 10% of homeowners) WHOA voted at its last meeting to stop maintaining some of the landscaping in our community, and anticipates all landscape management will end in less than a year from now!

Belonging to the Williamsburg Homeowners Association brings some special advantages to its members.

For just $25 per year, you will have the opportunity to support the group that represents all of the Villages in Williamsburg to negotiate with our local governments and Agencies on our behalf.

Thanks to WHOA, we have enjoyed many improvements to our Community, including new street lights on Orangewood Blvd, street repair and lighting, and a specially designed traffic exchange with the Beach Line Expressway and Orangewood that reduces the traffic streaming down from Universal Boulevard. WHOA Also maintains all of the landscaping that isn't the responsibility of the individual villages of Williamsburg.

Please help us to continue this important service by paying your dues each year. Only $25 per year buys a lot of benefits! ...Send to:

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON
ANOTHER NEW PHARMACY AND A WAWA!

A 24 hourWalgreens pharmacy is nearly
open on the
Southwest corner of I Drive and Central
Florida Parkway. Yes, it is directly
acrossthe street from the new CVS store.

Also featured on this corner will be
a 5,600 sq. ft. WAWA convenience store
and gas station, and a Taco Bell restaurant
and several other stores
to be announced later.
MORE BUSINESSES COMING!
A new Bonefish Grille is planned for
the space between the Westwood CVS and
the new 7-11 now JUST OPENED on
Central Florida Parkway.

A Panera Bread and a Buffalo wild Wings
are coming to I Drive just North of CFL Parkway.

Work has begun on the construction of a
Racetrac Gas Station at the corner of
Taft-Vineland Road and CFL Parkway.

A WOOD GRILL BUFFET restaurant is
 under construction on I-Drive
(South) about 1/2 mile from the intersection
of CFL Parkway and I- Drive. More info soon.

DESTINATION PARKWAY WILL FINALLY GET A DESTINATION!

The picture above was taken from John Young Pkwy, which will come out next to the Publix on Universal Boulevard.

Orange County has built a bridge over Shingle Creek to connect Destination Parkway, which currently ends about 1/2 mile East of Universal Boulevard, to John Young Parkway.

Eventually, it will also connect to International Drive, right next to the Hilton. The work on the East side is on hold until the County can find a developer who is willing to pay for extending the road. No one knows when the West end will be completed. Hopefully, in our lifetime!

This road should eventually reduce traffic on Central Florida Parkway.

Restaurant Review - by Len Smoke

Cafe Gauguin Buffet Restaurant

If you enjoy a quality Buffet at a fair price, then you should try Café Gauguin. It is so named because there are a number of pictures in the restaurant that are painted in the style of Gauguin. The food here is a step above the Plaza Gardens, which is probably the most visited restaurant for Williamsburgers, and also a bit more expensive, but it is worth it. They frequently feature hand carved Prime Rib and a freshly prepared pasta station, along with a chicken, fish, and at least one vegetable dish.

The salad bar is especially attractive, displaying Shrimp, a variety of cheeses, giant Olives and some terrific mixed salads; and freshly prepared soups.

Don’t forget the deserts! My favorite is “Chocolate madness” but there is always a great selection of cakes and ice Cream with an assortment of toppings.

The staff is friendly and helpful, and the Dining Room is very large and attractively furnished.

It is located in the front of the Rosen Centre Hotel on International Drive. The best way to get there is to take the Beach line for one exit (to the I-Drive exit). Turn Right and look for the SECOND LEFT TURN FOR Hawaiian Court, just before the Rosen Centre. Go all the way to the back of the hotel and enter through the gated entry. Tell the guard that you are going for dinner at Café Gauguin, and there will be no charge for parking. Valet parking is also available at the front of the hotel.

You should also know that it is a fairly long walk from the parking garage to the restaurant, but, in my opinion, very well worth it.

And don’t forget to ask for your WHOA discount! When you show your card, you will get 25% off your entire check! Don’t miss this great deal! If you have an entertainment card, you can get a “buy one, get one free” every time you go.
